Most of the embroideries shown on this site are from designs by the Japanese Embroidery Center (JEC) and have been embroidered by students following the JEC curriculum.  This curriculum is broken down into 'phases', numbers 1-9 cover the main 46 Japanese embroidery techniques, each phase introduces new techniques as well as giving the student chance to practice techniques learned in earlier phases. Phase 10 is considered a 'graduation' piece as it includes all 46 techniques.

JEC pieces beyond phase 10 can be found in the Advanced gallery, and for non-phase, or practice pieces, check out the Non-phase gallery.

For more information on the Japanese Embroidery Center, classes, teachers, history, other aspects of their work, or to purchase work directly from the center check out their website.  More Japanese embroidery sites can be found on the Links page.

Some of the Items in the Other Pieces gallery are for sale or have been blogged about.  Follow the links on the photos to learn more.
